Leila & Richard

February 21, 2018

Leila & Richard's African-English fused wedding really was a sight to behold! The couple seamlessly blended traditions from both cultures to achieve a vibrant day that brought together their family and friends in celebration.

Leila begun the day at home with her team of bridesmaids and maid of honour, all laughing and chatting while they all had their hair and make up done. Her aunties had been busy baking too, so I was lucky enough to try some sweet African rolls (a bit like donuts!) while I was filming the proceedings.

Leila and Richard's wedding ceremony was very personal to them. The couple chose Holy Trinity Church in Boston, their regular place of worship, to tie the knot, with the Reverend Ian Blake conducting proceedings. The service itself was filled with hymns, readings and prayers in support of the couple, their new life together and their family, which was truly beautiful.

Following the wedding ceremony, the party the started in earnest at Old Leak Community Centre. The couple were welcomed with singing and dancing and throughout the day many of their family members and friends got up to speak and wish the couple well.

I particularly liked Aunty Mariam's story, that accompanied the cake cutting, where she explained that the cake had been baked with jars of love, patience, happiness, health, joy and prosperity!

Once the speeches and meal were finished, Leila and Richard, and the bridal party, changed into their African outfits to start the evening's merriment. They danced their way into the reception wearing their brightly coloured clothes before taking to the floor for their first dance, set to Lonestar's "Amazed By You".

Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Peel!
